Anime Review: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Episode 1

Continuing on our quest of anime reviews, we now go to one we’ve been meaning to watch since June of last year: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?.  Being that we love RPGS as much as anime, we’ve been wanting to check this out.  so here is our review of the first episode,  Bell Cranel | Adventurer, where we find out that it isn’t that easy being a beginning adventurer.  Like always, we start with taking some potshots at it while we watch, and then we give our take.

NOTE: we updated the review when we saw we published it before finishing it.  Oops.

0:00  Damn, a sub, not a dub

0:56  Hestia?  Well played.

1:23  That minotaur’s life was at steak.

4:59  This is true

6:20  Definitely not as well know as Loki.

9:41  Stats?

11:09  Hello FAN SERVICE!!!

13:56  So even goddesses have PMS?

19:04  Damn this is brutal

20:01  Damn, he croaked.

22:49  Must say I like combining the opening credits with the closing one at the end

Definitely a fun little show.  We do wish they had just used d20 stats, as that is legally allowed, but with homemade stats you can fiddle the knobs and get the cheesy ridiculousness we love in anime.

Bell is definitely more of the Japanese idea of a hero than American. American’s traditionally liked their heroes less…less…well, maybe more emotionally secure if they are of a certain age.  G1 Optimus Prime is a typical US hero, but G1 Hot Rod was more Japanese.  This is much less so now than 30 years ago, and this whole paragraph might be reflective of my age moreso than anything else.

Hestia is a lesser known Greek goddess, and it is nice to see her mentioned.  However, I am not sure how much I like the character yet.  I will need to watch more episodes to know for sure.

Anyways, we rate Dungeon 3 and a half snowflakes out of five.

Quoth the penguin…evermore.
